THE ALPHA PAIR

Casey & Shelley Black started Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre in the summer of 1998, with the adoption of Aspen. It was in the summer of 2002 that the centre finally opened its doors to the public, offering a fun educational experience and the chance to see wolves up close.

WHAT DO WE DO HERE?

Interpretive talks about wolves and their role in a healthy ecosystem are offered daily to visitors from around the world, and we customize educational programs for groups and schools. Our wolves are also used for photography, some documentary work, and a little adventure.

Our grey wolves (meet the pack) live in a 1.25-acre enclosure, and interpretive talks take place right at the fence. Plus, our wolves are exercised regularly, off-leash... so they are happy and healthy ambassadors for their wild cousins. A visit to the Wolf Centre does not require a reservation.

It is during the exercise hikes that - through Blackwolf Photography - we are able to offer people the unique opportunity to photograph wolves in their natural environment. Nestled between the Rockies and the Purcells, we are blessed with plenty of wilderness around here, and the scenery is fabulous! A photo session with the wolves requires a reservation.

WHERE ARE WE & HOW DO YOU GET HERE?

The interpretive centre is located just west of Golden, in British Columbia.

Golden is a small community at the junction of Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada)
and Highway 95, about 3 hours west of Calgary. To truly experience the area, we recommend that you have your own vehicle, but there are also lots of good tour companies that can help you discover the Rockies.

If you do not have your own vehicle, you can get to the town of Golden by taking the Greyhound Bus. To get to the Wolf Centre you can take an expensive taxi ride, or check the Community Bus schedule for a more economical option. The Chamber of Commerce (250-344-7125) or the Visitor Info Centre (1-800-622-GOLD) can also help you find more info about the bus.

Six national parks are just a short drive away!
